Reconstruction
An interactive exhibition featuring the work of Yampa Valley artists.
Exhibition: October 9, 2012 – November 30, 2012
Reception: Friday November 2, 5 – 8p.m.
The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is excited to announce a special, interactive project taking place throughout October and November. Reconstruction invites artists in any medium to participate in this exhibition that explores the dynamic ways in which artists interpret each other’s work. This exhibition is also a fundraiser to support upcoming visual arts programming.
During the month of October an abstract artwork, Reconstruction no. 1, by Gregory Block, will be displayed solely in the main gallery at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot. From October 9th - 30th artists working in any medium are invited to create an artwork on 12” x 12” canvases provided by the Arts Council in reference to Block’s work. The scope of this project is for artists to re-interpret, deconstruct/reconstruct, or simply use as inspiration the initial abstraction, Reconstruction no. 1. Artists are encouraged to work from any approach of their choosing, with the only parameters being that the work must ultimately exist on the provided 12” x 12” canvas, must be completed by Tuesday October 30th and agree that each work will be for sale at $200 (50% will go to support SSAC). The submitted works will then be on show for the month of November along with the stimulus artwork. Reconstruction will open on First Friday November 2nd, 5pm – 8pm.
Throughout October the Arts Council encourages artists to come and work in the gallery space and in their own studios, organize group sessions and engage others in the community in the conversation of artistic interpretation. The reverberations of this interactive project will be a profound look into the artistic diversity that exists in the Yampa Valley!
